Hello, and welcome.
Your friendly neighborhood Populist Rabblerouser here. So the question you need to ask yourself is, why revolt? Why endanger your already strenuous life that you built with your own two hands?
For the children? Hell, older generations have been screwing over the kids since the industrial age.
For the country? We can’t even agree on basic things like abortion and health care.
For peace? Yeah, right.
How about for the future? Getting warmer.
Why should you revolt against the ever encroaching power of the police state? Because it’s your goddamn job. There’s a lot of talk in high school civics class about what the country owes us in terms of our rights, how people have sacrificed so much so that we can be free today. But what about what we owe our country? What about our sacrifice?
Well, if you listen to the people who seek to ENSLAVE you, what you owe the country is to ‘keep shopping’. Your sacrifice is nothing more difficult than believing all the talking heads and the propaganda put in place to keep you asleep while the people chosen to represent us act like monsters. And our complacent media laughs along while they do it, telling us nothing of what we need to know and everything of what has been created and shaped to keep us stupid and out of touch.
Wake up.
What you owe the country is your dissent. In whatever form you can provide. Your sacrifice is your time, your energy, whatever it takes to let whoever will listen know that you are NOT OKAY with the abuses of our elected officials, the media circus, and the continued violent actions perpetrated worldwide in our names while we slide into poverty ourselves here at home.
I’m willing to bet half of you are sitting back reading this and wondering why another over reactor felt the need to try and get people riled up. Today I decided to renew my efforts to take a stand and make people more aware because Bush just made all forms of war protest illegal. This is not a drill. This is not a joke. Basically, the police state now has the lateral to make a decision about your words and your actions. If it’s seen as suitably anti-Iraq, you can and will be classified as an enemy combatant and detained in a Haliburton sponsored camp to await rendition to an undisclosed secret prison. This is real, and it’s happening to you and everyone you know.
Not good enough? Still think I’m fear mongering? How about Congress being denied the ability to review plans for securing the government after terrorist attack? What does the White House feel it has to hide by denying review of this potentially important document? Could it possibly be that there is a serious clause about suspending elections indefinitely and declaring Martial Law?
I don’t hint at these things to scare you. I tell you these things because an informed public is a powerful one. There’s a lot of “writing on the wall”, illustrated by the actions of the Executive, that drives home the reasons wonks on the ‘loony left’ are shouting about impending trouble. Things that conservatives considered ‘American imposibilities’, that liberals have been warning about for decades, are now happening. And you believe any one candidate from your party of choice will make things magically all better in 2008? I’m telling you, we’re all going to be in for an unpleasant surprise with that attitude. The American people are still powerful, but we become less so everyday. So let’s do something about the terrorists that are attacking our country from within and slaughtering innocent civilians without.
Do you want to be a part of the generation that allowed fascism to run rampant in America? Or do you want to be able to say you did something? Put down the remote, turn off the iPod, and GET EDUCATED.
